Slim vests with small inserts suit walking and cautious progression. Plate carriers suit Murph prep and gym workouts but move in larger jumps set by plate pairs. Heavy pocket vests make more sense for pull-ups and dips than for long sessions.
The ELITE pairs a close, stretchy fit with the smallest load steps on this page, which makes it easy to fine-tune for walking and general conditioning. It is our pick for beginners and anyone who wants more precision than a plate carrier allows. Hyperwear also publishes the clearest sizing here, with chest, height and body-weight ranges from S (31–35” chest) to XL (43–57”).
Good to know
Price band: $$$, with 10 lb of weights included.
Skip it if you need more than 25 lb or would rather load a few plates than many small inserts.

The fixed-weight Zelus Classic is the budget pick because it is the Zelus model independent reviewers actually covered, and it suits light walking loads. You buy one weight (6 to 30 lb), so pick the load you need now – about 5% of body weight to start under our house guidance.
Good to know
Price band: $–$$ depending on weight, weights built in.
Skip it if you want to add weight later, need fine progression, or want a vest for plate-carrier-style workouts.

The FIT has no weight pockets in the chest area, so the load sits at the abdomen and back. Its half-pound steps make cautious progression simple, and adjustable side lacing plus shoulder and waist straps help tune the fit across sizes S (30–34” chest) to L (38–43”).
Good to know
Price band: $$, depending on the kit you choose.
Skip it if you need more than 10 lb. BarBend notes that “most CrossFit workouts call for a 14-pound vest for women.”

The Rogue Plate Carrier is a streamlined, fitness-first carrier co-developed with Dave Castro (per Rogue). Garage Gym Reviews named it Best Adjustable and BarBend named it Best Overall in their roundups. BarBend also likes the clear sizing instructions, though it notes the vest is designed around Rogue-branded plates.
Good to know
Price band: $$$ for the vest; plates are extra.
Skip it if you want included weights, small steps or more than 40 lb.

Garage Gym Reviews and BarBend both name the TacTec Best for CrossFit, and Garage Gym Reviews notes it was used at the CrossFit Games Murph events in 2015–2016. Compared with the Rogue, it is bulkier and more feature-heavy.
Good to know
Price band: $$$$ for the vest; plates are extra.
Skip it if you want a minimal, cooler carrier.

The Titan offers far more included weight than slim walking vests, in smaller steps than most plate carriers. It suits pull-ups, dips and straightforward strength work, with extra shoulder and chest padding and a 1050D nylon Cordura shell. Sports Illustrated Showcase notes it comes in one size only.
Good to know
Price band: $$–$$$ depending on the version, weights included.
Skip it if you need a slim vest or have a smaller frame (it is one size).

The G-Vest Icon builds its base weight into the garment instead of using loose packets or plates. It is a premium pick for buyers who want a close, stable fit, with separate men’s and women’s versions in three sizes each.
Good to know
Price band: $$$$; the G-Pack is extra.
Skip it if you want gradual progression or a lower price band.

Kensui EZ-VEST V2 (Lite / Pro / Max) A plate-loaded vest for standard 2” Olympic plates, with capacity per the maker of 80 lb (Lite), 150 lb (Pro) and 300 lb (Max). Garage Gym Reviews suits it to weighted pull-ups and dips, not running or CrossFit-style workouts, and says it gets awkward at high loads. Plates are not included, and Kensui offers a 100-day risk-free trial. Sources: Kensui, Kensui, Kensui, Garage Gym Reviews, Garage Gym Reviews, Garage Gym Reviews, Torokhtiy, Garage Gym Lab
GORUCK Rucking Weight Vest Made for rucking, it reaches 14, 20 or 30 lb total depending on the curved plate pair, and GORUCK says those proprietary plates fit only this vest. GORUCK backs it with its SCARS Lifetime Guarantee and sells it in S/M and L/XL. Independent coverage is thin: WearTested, which received the vest free, praises the curved plates and stability, and the Strength Axis blog likes the high, snug fit. CAP Barbell 20-lb Adjustable Weighted Vest A very low-price starter vest with steel-shot packets included (about 0.75 lb each, per the maker). Garage Gym Reviews calls it a good starter vest but says the fabric tears easily; BarBend notes it is one size and the weight can flop around. Breaking Muscle (2023) reported thin shoulder padding and leaking weight bags. Sources: CAP Barbell, BarBend, Garage Gym Reviews, Breaking Muscle
MiR Pro Weighted Vests Sold in packages up to 120 lb with 3 lb iron weights. Fitness Volt calls it expensive and heavy, independent coverage is limited, and Rogue’s guide says the men’s PRO may not suit smaller people and points them to the MiR Short or MiR Women’s. Garage Gym Reviews likes that the weights sit high on the torso. Sources: Rogue Fitness, Rogue Support, Garage Gym Reviews, Fitness Volt
Zelus Z-Fit Slim Adjustable Weighted Vest A new Y-shaped vest Zelus markets as “women-first,” in 8–32 lb variants. Zelus advertises a 1-year warranty on its homepage (terms not published) and 30-day returns with a restocking fee. We found no independent review of this exact model yet; Kit Authority and Garage Gym Reviews cover other Zelus vests. It depends on step size and capacity. For fine steps, the Hyperwear ELITE (2.25 oz weights) and Hyperwear FIT (0.5 lb) stand out. For more capacity with included weight, the Titan Elite Series adjusts in 2.5 lb ingots. Plate carriers like the Rogue and 5.11 TacTec adjust by plate pairs, usually in much larger jumps. The Zelus Classic Adjustable sits in between with 1.5 lb bags (the fixed Classic has no steps), while the OMORPHO G-Vest Icon has only one step (the add-on G-Pack).

Ratings differ by retailer, product version and review count, and a high average from a few reviews means little. As seen on October 6, 2026: the Rogue Plate Carrier holds 4.7/5 from 258 reviews on roguefitness.com, the Hyperwear ELITE shows 85% 5-star across 364 reviews and the Hyperwear FIT a 98.4/100 score across 367 reviews on hyperwear.com, and the Kensui EZ-VEST shows 4.8 stars from 1,524 reviews on kensui.com. Smaller samples deserve less weight: the Zelus Classic (fixed) shows 4.8 from 17 reviews on zelusfitness.com (October 9, 2026), and the CAP 20-lb vest shows 5 stars from just 2 reviews on capbarbell.com (October 6, 2026).
Maker-hosted scores shouldn’t stand alone, which is why we weigh independent reviews from outlets like Garage Gym Reviews and BarBend alongside them.
Options that reach 30 lb: the Titan Elite Series 30 lb version (weight included), the Zelus Classic 30 lb fixed version, and the Rogue Plate Carrier with plate pairs (up to 40 lb per Rogue).
But 30 lb is 15% of a 200 lb man, the upper end of our house guidance for healthy, trained adults (our default ceiling for most people is 10%). Most people should start lower: UCLA Health and Mass General Brigham suggest starting around 5% of body weight [1][2], which is 10 lb at 200 lb. A Cleveland Clinic sports medicine physician says going above 10% adds little benefit but more injury risk [3].
Our house guidance for walking: progress by adding time first, or about 1–2% of body weight every 1–2 weeks, and only while your gait and technique stay unchanged and pain-free. Change one variable at a time.
